You have been suffering for a while, and may have been recommended to do Pilates by a doctor, physiotherapist or osteopath. You’d like to start a class but worry that others in the class will be much fitter and stronger than you or are anxious that you will feel out of place.
You’re fed up with your niggles now and don’t want them to get any worse. You would like to stop putting it off and get rid of your aches and pains in a friendly environment with the moral support of others just like you who are going through the same kind of things.
You have pain and stiffness that stops you doing the things you enjoy and may have had treatment from a physiotherapist or osteopath but would love some individual guidance on how to stay out of pain on a more long term basis.
You’ve heard Pilates will be of benefit but don’t think the class environment is for you. You feel your issues need a little more one to one attention and you’d prefer to see more rapid results through an individually tailored programme to suit your specific needs.
I help people to reduce back/neck pain and joint stiffness, improve their posture and feel less stressed through small and friendly group classes and 1:1 Pilates sessions.
There are many reasons why people suffer with back/neck pain and joint stiffness, and in the majority of cases this will not be due to serious damage but due to poor posture and muscle imbalances caused by repeated faulty movement patterns (such as long hours hunched over a computer or gardening!). Having said this, if you are in pain it is important to seek medical advice before embarking on any new exercise regime for a proper diagnosis.
Pilates is extremely effective in dealing with the causes of most back/neck pain by re-introducing the body to good movement patterns, improving posture and strengthening the muscles that help support the spine. Through a combination of focussed mobility and stability exercises you will achieve a greater body awareness that provides the foundation to changing your body. Many people notice a change after only one session!
I will teach you to move and stabilise your spine to promote a stronger, healthier back whilst also improving shoulder and hip joint mobility. Your new understanding of your body and practising good movement patterns will gradually rebalance you, leaving you more relaxed and energised after each session. I call this Pilates magic dust! Come and try it for yourself.
