To help combat anxious thoughts, practice mindfulness.
*When your thoughts are racing try to focus on the phyisical senses, the contact with your feet on the ground, bottom on the chair, the sensations in the body etc.
*Look in detail at whats around you – focus on shape, colour, texture, light and shadow).
*Allow sound to come to you – focus on the different layers of sound.
*What can you smell and taste?
*Then focus on the physical sensation of your breathing. Try 7/4/11 breathing (see my earlier post).
*Try to stay in the physical and be in the moment.
With regular practice this can really help soothe an anxious mind and body.
